Privacy Policy (Draft)
Everything on this page is the opinion of the author and a working draft. JauntJot is a public beta product of Apps 4 That LLC (Indiana, USA).
The short version
JauntJot is on-device-first. Your traveler profile, trips, compare boards, saved jaunts, and past-trip log live in your browser's local storage on your device. We do not have accounts, we do not run analytics on your answers, and we cannot see your data. Plausible Analytics gives us aggregate, cookie-free page and event counts only. Export it or erase it anytime from the Profile screen.
What stays on your device
- Your traveler profile (names/nicknames, kid age bands — never birthdates or records, food and pace preferences, mobility notes you choose to add).
- Trip sketches, destination cards, day slats, handoff checklists.
- Saved City Scout plans and your past-trip "what worked" log.
About kids: JauntJot stores at most a nickname and an age band you type in. It is not directed at children and collects nothing from them.
What leaves your device
- Nothing, by default. The free compare board, City Scout, and on-device coach run entirely in your browser and work offline.
- If you ask us to email you a plan or shortlist: we send your email address, a couple of non-sensitive interest tags (e.g. "travel," "family-travel," "solo-business-travel"), and the ad/referrer source that brought you here — and nothing else. We never send your trips, destinations, city choices, profile, or anything about your travelers. This only happens when you type your email and tick the consent box; both consent boxes start unchecked.
- If you use the paid AI Travel Scout (not yet on sale): your question, selected city id, and the profile facts needed to personalize the answer are sent to our server and relayed to Anthropic (Claude) to generate the reply. We don't store your questions; providers' processing terms apply.
- If you buy a plan (not yet on sale): payment is handled by Stripe. We never see card numbers.
- Hosting: the site is served by Vercel, which processes standard server logs (IP, user agent) to deliver pages.
- The email list, right now: while we finish wiring a dedicated email service provider, any address you knowingly submit is held in a private GitHub repository (GitHub, Inc.) accessible only to Apps 4 That. It stores your email, your consent choices, and the interest tags above — never your trips or profile. This is an interim step and this page will be updated the moment we move to a named email provider.
The optional email list, and Apps 4 That apps
JauntJot is made by Apps 4 That LLC, which also makes other small, private-by-default apps (for example FairwayAway and ParentTravelPal). If — and only if — you tick the separate "other Apps 4 That apps" box, we may recognize that the same person uses more than one of our apps (through a random, device-local ID that never leaves your device without that consent) so we can send you occasionally relevant news across the family. That second box is always separate from the first, always starts unchecked, and every email is one-click unsubscribe. The first box (JauntJot tips only) and the second box (other apps) are never bundled.
This cross-app practice is governed suite-wide by the Apps 4 That Privacy & Audience Policy (DRAFT — pending privacy-counsel sign-off), which describes the consented shared-audience layer across every Apps 4 That app.
Future processors (named now, in plain sight)
When JauntJot leaves preview, the processors will be: Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting and serverless functions), Anthropic (paid AI coach replies), GitHub (the interim private store for any email you submit to the list, until the email provider is finalized), and an email service provider (planned: MailerLite or Customer.io) that stores your email and sends the newsletter you opted into. If that list changes, this page changes first.
No dark patterns pledge
No selling data, no ad trackers, no "free trial that quietly bills." Free means free; limits are stated where they apply.
